ArcGIS Online · June 2026 Update Guide
What Changed & What It Means

The June 2026 ArcGIS Online update, in plain English.

One of three yearly ArcGIS Online releases. This guide walks every meaningful change — Map Viewer, Experience Builder, Field Maps, Imagery, AI, administration — with short, working demonstrations where a picture explains it faster than words.

00

At a Glance

The headline changes most people will actually notice.

  • Map Viewer grows up. A new Review Map health check, custom print layouts out of beta, GPU time-series animation, animation along lines, symbol draw-order control, and an Arcade debugger.
  • AI everywhere. Survey123, Business Analyst, and Translation assistants go GA at no extra cost. Agentic AI and a Notebooks assistant arrive in beta.
  • Experience Builder goes multilingual. A full translation system, three new widgets (Image Change Detection, Language Switcher, QuickCapture), and the new Keystone template.
  • Field Maps 26.2. Multiple-choice & attachment form elements, richer GPS metadata, and search finally drops the old 12-result cap.
  • Parquet feature layers (beta). A new read-only, cloud-native layer type built for fast visualization of very large datasets.
  • One deprecation to act on. The Experience Builder Branch Version Management widget retires in October 2026 — migrate before then.
Biggest win for authors

Review Map tool

Esri now grades your web map against best practices for high-traffic use and tells you exactly what to fix.

Biggest win for admins

Status dashboard is default

Credit usage split into Storage, Transactions, Sessions — with CSV export and member/item drill-down.

Biggest win for the field

Form attachments & multi-choice

Photos, video, and multi-select questions are now first-class parts of the form itself.

One to watch

Agentic AI (beta)

Ask a map questions in plain language — the groundwork for Dragon's Agentic GIS pattern.

01

Map Viewer

The browser map editor got the largest share of this release — cartography, animation, editing, and analysis.

Headliners

New

Review Map tool

Scores your map against high-traffic best practices and lists fixes by severity (editable layers, complex geometries). Jump straight to the offending setting.

Out of beta

Custom print layouts

Bring ArcGIS Pro layout templates straight into the web — logos, legends, page sizes, inset maps — no print server.

New

Arcade Run & Debug

A real debugger inside the Arcade editor. Step through your expression; it auto-uses the active feature as the test feature.

Beta

Parquet feature layers

A read-only, cloud-native layer built for fast rendering of huge datasets. Created in Data Pipelines.

Try it

Animation along a line

Map Viewer can now animate a symbol traveling along a line's path — routes, traffic, pipelines, journeys — so direction and movement read instantly. No special data model required; it's a styling option on line symbols using the "Move along line" animation type.

Try it

Symbol layer draw order — clean road casings

Multi-layer symbols (like a road's dark casing under a colored centerline) only look right when the layers stack in the correct order. The new Set symbol layer draw order control brings this Pro-level cartography to the web — toggle the button to see the messy version where casings cut across the intersection.

Try it

Time-series animation from attribute columns

Instead of duplicating geometry per timestamp, you store many time values as attribute columns on one feature. The engine swaps which column it shows as map time advances — smooth, GPU-driven animation. Drag the slider to "advance time" across six weeks of a value.

Everything else in Map Viewer

Visualize & style
  • New fonts. Enhanced Adds Noto Sans (Thai, Khmer, Lao, Myanmar), Atkinson Hyperlegible (accessibility), Barlow, and BC Sans (Indigenous-language maps). Modern web-font tech carries fonts faithfully from ArcGIS Pro.
  • Symbol layer locking & top-level color. Enhanced Top-level color changes affect only unlocked layers; symbol layers are collapsed by default for a cleaner panel. Also in Sketch and Smart Mapping.
  • Alternate symbols (scale-dependent). Enhanced Pro-authored symbols that change with zoom now display correctly on the web (read-only — authoring not yet in Map Viewer).
  • Flow renderer. Enhanced Smoother wind/ocean-current animation; reduced tile boundaries and gradual transitions when panning/zooming tiled imagery.
  • Labeling fonts & imagery wavelength info. New Access per-band wavelength (nanometers) when styling imagery with Stretch or RGB.
Explore & edit data
  • Sketch curves. Enhanced Full editor curve types — bezier, tangent, arc — with seamless switching between curved and straight segments mid-draw, plus segment-length labeling.
  • Forms: add fields in the builder. Enhanced Create number/date/text fields right in the form builder with defaults, pick lists, and constraints.
  • Forms: Multiple Choice input. New Multi-select answers; populate manually, by detecting values, or from a CSV.
  • Forms: attachment elements. New Control keywords, accepted file types, min/max counts, and Arcade-driven behavior.
  • Display Annotation & Dimensions. Beta Annotation and Dimension feature layers display in 2D maps and save to the web map (no leader lines yet; not for production).
  • Field formatting, expanded. Enhanced Layer/web-map date, time, and number formats are honored automatically in the attribute table — now including Oriented Imagery, Catalog Footprint, and Subtype sublayers.
  • Imagery interactive charts. New Bar charts, histograms, and scatterplots from dynamic imagery, tiled imagery, and WCS layers.
02

Experience Builder

Multilingual apps, three new widgets, a map-centric template, and dozens of widget upgrades.

Headliners

New

Multilingual apps

A Manage Translations panel translates your custom text — manually or via the AI translation assistant. Visitors switch language with the new Language Switcher widget.

New widget

Image Change Detection

Compares two imagery layers and outputs a difference layer — plant health, burn severity, water, built-up area.

New widget

QuickCapture

Big-button field collection inside your app — tap to log a feature with location, attributes, and photos.

New template

Keystone

Map-centric split layout: a map up top with side-by-side chart panels below.

Try it

Compare two layers — drag to swipe

BEFORE2021
AFTER2026

The Swipe widget now lets you rename the leading and trailing layer labels (shown here as BEFORE / AFTER). Drag the white handle to wipe between two layers — the classic way to show change over time. The new Image Change Detection widget automates the same question by computing the actual pixel difference.

Try it

Combo chart — bars + line in one

The Chart widget's new combo chart overlays a line series on bars — e.g. monthly volume (bars) against a running average (line). Toggle each series. You can also give every bar its own color and label.

All Experience Builder changes

App-level features
  • Accessibility / ARIA landmark roles. New Assign landmark roles to pages, blocks, screen groups, and many widgets so screen readers announce banners, navigation, search, and page changes.

  • 3D Toolbox, Chart, Coordinates, Date Filter, Grid, List, Map, Section, Share, Sidebar, Swipe. Smaller targeted improvements (default views, loading indicators, header colors, editable labels, short-link control, and more).
Heads up: the Branch Version Management widget is being retired — see Deprecations & Retirements.
03

Field Maps (26.2)

The mobile collection app, now on the 300.x ArcGIS Maps SDK. Smarter forms, richer GPS, better search.

Try it

Multiple-choice form element

Damage observed *
Select all that apply (1–4)
Stored value:

Workers can now pick more than one option, all saved into a single field as comma-delimited text. Each choice has a label (shown) and a code (stored). Notice "Other" reveals a text box — exactly how it behaves in the app. Authors set min/max counts and can offer "Select all."

All Field Maps changes

Forms & data capture
  • Multiple Choice form element. New Multi-select stored as comma-delimited text; manual, CSV, or generated choices; optional "Select all" and "Other."
  • Attachment form elements. New Photos, video, audio, and documents are now part of the form. Three types — General, Document, Media — with keywords, min/max counts, and an Arcade-driven filename profile.
GPS, tasks & versions
  • Enhanced GPS metadata. Enhanced Auto-captures antenna/orthometric height, geoid model, tilt angle/azimuth (Trimble), and correction-source info (NTRIP mount point, correction age).
  • Task filter sort control. Enhanced New "Edit sort by" lets authors choose fields and default sort for to-do lists (e.g., an inspection order per zone).
  • Switch branch versions. New With Enterprise 12.1, workers switch between a collection of named versions in the online map.
Search & quality
  • Search, rebuilt. Enhanced No more 12-results-per-layer cap. Multi-source results preview 3 each with a "3 of 36" count and a More button; "By address" results land in a Places category (max 50). Search config now lives inside Field Maps Designer.

Imagery & 3D Scenes

Hyperspectral analysis in the browser, imagery charts, video imagery, and a big Scene Viewer release.

Try it

Image change detection

vs =
Left = 2021 · Middle = 2026 · Right = change

The new Experience Builder Image Change Detection widget subtracts one imagery layer from another and paints each pixel by the magnitude of change. Here the red cells are where the two scenes differ — the same idea used for burn severity, new construction, or water change.

Imagery in ArcGIS Online
  • Hyperspectral tools in Map Viewer. New Detect Target Using Spectra, Detect Image Anomalies, Resample Library Spectra — mineral and hyperspectral workflows, no desktop required.

  • Visibility behind objects, complex polygons, redesigned welcome screen. New Control obscured/underground labels; render self-intersecting polygons.
Try it

3D glow effect

Scene Viewer can make 3D symbols emit light. Toggle it — the buildings light up against the dark like an illuminated skyline, useful for nighttime operations or emphasis.

07

Analysis & AI

New spatial tools, a faster path from model to web tool, and AI assistants going GA.

Try it

80-20 (Pareto) analysis

The new 80-20 Analysis tool finds where a small share of locations accounts for most of the incidents. Bars = incidents per location (sorted); the line = cumulative %. Slide to highlight the "vital few" — notice how ~20% of locations already cover most incidents, so that's where you focus resources.

New analysis tools
  • 80-20 Analysis. New Pareto concentration — find the ~20% of places driving ~80% of activity.
  • Detect Target Using Spectra. New Per-pixel match score against target spectra (SAM, SID, adaptive).
  • Detect Image Anomalies. New Anomaly-score raster (RXD, UTD, K-means) — spot ships, unusual land cover.
  • Resample Library Spectra. New Align a spectral library to a target sensor's bands/wavelengths.
ModelBuilder
  • Publish without running first and overwrite existing web tools. Enhanced
  • Publish in view-only mode; cut/copy/paste elements within and between models. Enhanced
  • Fields as a variable for more dynamic, configurable web tools. Enhanced
AI
  • Three assistants reach GA — no extra cost. GA Survey123 assistant, Business Analyst assistant, and the Translation assistant, all driven by natural language.
